Investing in People Through Training

Hudbay is committed to developing and empowering its employees through comprehensive training and support initiatives.

At the heart of this commitment is our Mine Your Potential program — our signature professional development initiative designed to support employees at every stage of their career. The program features three dedicated streams:

  • Leadership Training & Coaching – focused on strengthening coaching, communication, and conflict resolution skills among supervisors
  • Technical Training – covering policies, legislation, and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) education
  • Employee Wellness – a foundational pillar supporting mental, physical, and emotional well-being

Our comprehensive leadership training has also grown into an extensive development series, offering multiple sessions throughout the year. This program is designed to cultivate strong, confident leaders who are well-equipped to inspire, support, and successfully guide their teams.

Indigenous Relations

  • Indigenous Circle for Everyone (ICE)

The Indigenous Circle for Everyone (ICE) program is central to our commitment to cultural enrichment. Launched in 2022 and expanded in 2023, ICE provides Hudbay employees with a thorough exploration of the cultural aspects of local First Nations communities. Monthly sessions address Indigenous language preservation, traditional ceremonies, and community life. ICE fosters understanding and respect, with all sessions accessible on our Sharing Circle intranet site.

  • Growing Connections with Indigenous Communities

Hudbay’s engagement with Indigenous communities is guided by best practices, including the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR)  program. We prioritize measurable outcomes in employment, procurement, and cultural awareness, and our Silver-level PAIR certification underscores our commitment to fostering strong, positive relationships with Indigenous communities. Through initiatives that promote economic development and community involvement, such as tours of cultural camps and exploration sites, we aim to create meaningful connections and support local aspirations.

Flin Flon Financial Agreement/Grant in Lieu

Hudbay is dedicated to supporting the Flin Flon and Snow Lake communities through financial agreements and collaborative projects. In Flin Flon, we maintain a multi-year grant-in-lieu agreement with the local government, demonstrating our ongoing commitment even after the cessation of mining activities in 2022.

Community Contributions and Support

Hudbay is dedicated to supporting and enriching the communities where we operate, understanding that our success is closely tied to their well-being.

As part of our efforts, Hudbay’s Manitoba operations continuously invests in local organizations and initiatives, addressing a wide range of community needs, from sports and recreation to education and cultural programs. Significant contributions have been made to organizations such as the Flin Flon Bombers, the Community Adult Learning Centre, and Indspire, an Indigenous-led charitable organization.

Our support also extends to recreational and educational initiatives in Snow Lake and Flin Flon, reinforcing our dedication to fostering community development and resilience.
